- [Almost 2,400 Children Have Participated in L+M’s After School Programs](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/almost-2400-children-have-participated-in-lms-after-school-programs/): In 2011, L+M began supporting an after-school program at one of our properties in the Claremont neighborhood of the South Bronx. The program was created in response to residents' need for both academic enrichment and childcare to accommodate their working hours and began with fewer than 25 students. Today, L+M-sponsored afterschool programming has grown to support almost 350 children and their families annually in the Bronx, Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens, Yonkers, Newark N.J., and as far afield as San Francisco, and New Orleans.

- [Project EATS Stays Connected to Brownsville Residents](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/project-eats-stays-connected-to-brownsville-residents/): Project EATS, an L+M grantee, stayed connected to their community when farm visits were restricted by producing a weekly newsletter throughout the height of the pandemic. The weekly newsletter, which is ongoing and available in print and online, recently published its 31st edition. It includes updates about what produce is available from the farm, recipe ideas, and healthy living tips. Each weekly food box includes a copy of the newsletter, along with fresh produce from the Project EATS farm and other supplemental food.
- [PENCIL Program Turns Classroom Learnings into Hands-On Experience](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/pencil-program-turns-classroom-learnings-into-hands-on-experience/): This year, L+M's volunteer partnership with PENCIL extended beyond the classroom and into our office (remotely, of course) for an internship opportunity. Elian Gomez, who was one of the L+M mentees from the 2019-2020 Murray Hill Academy/PENCIL cohort, joined our Legal and Insurance team as an intern to take some of what he’d learned during the 10-month PENCIL program and apply it in practice.
- [COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: STEM from Dance](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/community-spotlight-stem-from-dance/): One of L+M’s newest grantees is STEM from Dance, an organization that uses dance to empower, educate, and encourage young women as the next generation of engineers, scientists, and techies. And while dance and STEM-related skills might seem at the opposite ends of the spectrum, STEM from Dance’s founder Yamilee Toussaint Beach studied both disciplines and found that they complemented each other and supported her overall development.
- [L+M Supports Local Tailors to Create Masks for Residents](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/lm-supports-local-tailors-to-create-masks-for-residents/): L+M funded the 100 Tailors of Harlem to sew masks for our Brooklyn and Bronx residents during the New York City COVID shutdown. This program gave residents access to free and reusable masks and ensured that small businesses from the 100 Tailors were able to remain operational. The 100 Tailors is a small business incubator initiative based out of the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Markets.

The farmstand will bring fresh and affordable produce to residents Baychester, their neighbors, and the wider community, as well as empower young people to develop their entrepreneurial skills by teaching them how to operate a small business and run a farm stand in their local community.

- [Our Community Comes Together for the Holidays](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/our-community-comes-together-for-the-holidays/): In Brooklyn, our property management team at Marcus Garvey Apartments partnered with the Tenants Association to give away 100 turkeys with fixings, including green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy and stuffing. They also worked with the Brownsville Community Justice Center, one of our 2019 Grantees, to distribute an additional 65 turkeys.  Over at Arverne View in Queens, our team hosted a special Thanksgiving lunch for senior residents and delivered 100 turkeys to families living at the property. Our team distributed 50 turkeys at Impac Houses in Harlem and another 90 turkeys at our Baychester and Murphy properties in the Bronx.

- [Senior Companions: Making A Difference by Giving Independence](https://lmdevpartners.com/news-awards/community-news/senior-companions-making-a-difference-by-giving-independence/): C+C Apartment Management, in partnership with Henry Street Settlement, offers the Senior Companion Program to residents at Saratoga Square located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The program pairs companions (who are at least 55 years of age) with older adults that have difficulty performing daily tasks. All qualified volunteers complete a training course and serve 15 to 40 hours a week.

L+M sought to revitalize the 625-unit complex with apartment renovations, the installation of alternative energy solutions and various other improvements on the grounds including the construction of a children’s playground. To further enhance the lives of residents, however, L+M also brought in nonprofit partners and grantees to further support residents through programming and services and in order to do so, L+M initiated a comprehensive community-focused survey.

During the last 20 years with LMBG, he has helped transform and elevate LMBG into the top residential developer and builder in the New York City Metro area in several markets including market rate residential, rental and ownership, affordable residential, mixed-use facilities and preservation/rehabilitation projects. As President of L+M Builders Group, Gerald has overall accountability of the Construction Group while always supporting the mission and vision of L+M Developing Partners. He helps establish and maintain relationships with clients, partners, subcontractors/vendors, and community leaders. Gerald holds a BS in civil engineering from Manhattan College.
