Linden Students Learn to Cook Vegan Culinary Creations

This summer, the Linden Houses Resident Association teamed up with the Mayor’s Neighborhood Safety Initiatives Program to host the Linden Culinary Hub, a culinary training program for high school students residing at Linden Houses in Brooklyn.

Led by Donna Brown, aka Chef Rootsie and the founder of Veggie Grub catering services, the 10-week program taught 13 students essential kitchen skills, food preparation methods, and delicious plant-based recipes. The program concluded with a graduation ceremony and food-tasting event showcasing the students’ creations.

The graduation ceremony at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn was a huge success, with family, friends, and community members enjoying the students’ vegan and vegetarian dishes. The students expressed their gratitude to Chef Rootsie and shared their excitement about preparing healthy recipes for their families. One graduate even called it the best experience of their life. Congratulations to all the Graduates!

L+M, Douglaston Development, SMJ Development and Dantes Partners have partnered with NYCHA on the rehabilitation and preservation of 2,615 units of public housing at Stanley Avenue Preservation, across Linden and Penn -Wortman Houses, through NYCHA’s Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program.
