LMDP – Senior Manager of Community Affairs
Community Affairs
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to 96,000.00 Annually
L+M Development Partners LLC (LMDP), an established residential developer/builder/manager, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Community Affairs Manager to ensure that community engagement is a focal point during a project’s life cycle and properly integrated across the company’s portfolio. The Senior Community Affairs Manager will be working on various affordable housing projects in Brooklyn to help build, strengthen and maintain partnerships with current tenant, community, political, and service-based groups within this specific community. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to work well as a member of an integrated team, but also capable of working independently with limited oversight, and possess the ability to build key internal and external relationships. Additionally, he or she will possess a sound understanding of complex systems and structures that promote social and economic equity, but also have a strong enthusiasm to support communities thriving for parity and inclusion.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and inform internal staff and development partners of vital community issues, needs and assets of this specific project during the predevelopment and visioning process.
- Must be able to coordinate and facilitate meetings with diverse populations (elected officials, residents, community partners, public agencies, etc.)
- Serve as liaison to tenant association members, resident stakeholders, local government staff, non-profits, and key external stakeholders.
- Respond to community issues in a timely manner by working in conjunction with VP of Community Affairs and key organizational members within L+M, C&C Apartment Management, and development partners.
- Attend local/community meetings to understand the issues, cultivate existing L+M and C&C relationships and build new relationships with stakeholders (Tenant Association, Community Board, neighborhood meetings, town hall, etc.)
- Draft required reports/correspondence and generate work products as needed for the External Affairs team.
- Coordinate quality of life surveys of residents with internal staff or community partners
- Coordinate with project managers by proactively scheduling meetings with stakeholders, writing necessary correspondence and generating other necessary work products as needed or requested. In addition, support project managers in event planning and logistics.
- Work closely with community investments team around internal and external communication of our community investment and philanthropy efforts.
- Work closely with the L+M Communication team to assist in L+M’s overall public relations strategy.
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Comfortable with and skilled in building relationships with elected officials, nonprofits individuals, religious leaders, and businesses.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and approach problems creatively.
- Must be comfort with public speaking, and creating, delivering presentations.
- Ability to establish and develop procedures and programs.
- Ability to organize and effectively manage multiple responsibilities and priorities.
- Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across internal departments and external organizations and manage complex relationships.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Preferred Background and Skills:
- Relevant working knowledge of Brooklyn neighborhoods and political framework.
- High energy and ability to interact and develop relationships in unfamiliar settings.
- Ability to travel to company sites to establish and maintain tenant relations.
- Bilingual in Spanish (able to read, write, and speak proficiently) a plus.
- Knowledge and/or experience with grassroots advocacy campaigns a plus.
- Familiarity with real estate and affordable housing a strong plus.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area, encouraged
Years of Required Experience:
- 5 – 10 years of related work experience; particularly in government, social service, customer service and/or housing industry is ideal.
