First Building at Essex Crossing Opens

Earlier this year, the first building at Essex Crossing opened to the Lower East Side community. The building is also the new home for Grand St. Settlement, an NYU Langone Medical Center and Grand Lo, a social enterprise café.

Named for local activist, Frances Goldin, the building is 100% affordable for seniors and those previously displaced by the Seward Park Urban Renewal development that began in the 1970’s.

When complete, the Essex Crossing project will create 1,079 apartments over nine sites, more than 50% of which are affordable.

Read more about the project here and check out a time-lapse video of sites currently under construction.
