Walking and Nutrition Program for Seniors at Arverne East Featured on NY1

The bi-weekly Wise Walking Warriors program at our Arverne East development in the Rockaways, where seniors walk along the boardwalk and do calisthenics exercises to stay active and improve their overall health, was recently highlighted by NY1.

In addition to the outdoor exercises, the program teaches the seniors about healthy cooking with nutrition classes in our Arverne East Multipurpose Building, which was completed earlier this year and has become a community hub for a wide variety of local events. The program is part of City Parks Foundations’ free seniors fitness programming.

The Wise Walking Warriors program site was launched in 2022 with support from L+M and funding from local elected officials State Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers.

The Arverne East Multipurpose Building is part of the overall Arverne East development, which will transform a 116-acre vacant oceanfront site on the Rockaway Peninsula into the first net-zero community in New York City. It will include 1,650 housing units – 80% of which will be affordable.
