OSHA 40 graduates

The Bronx Point Career Exploratory Program engaged 20 young people from the local area and highlighted different career paths in the real estate field. Over a week, the cohort visited the Bronx Point site each day, watched construction progress in real-time and learned more about the development process.

The program featured guest speakers with industry experience in development, project management, labor and trades, building maintenance, and leasing, as well as a Bronx resident hired through the project’s local hiring program.

In addition, participants were introduced to core skills, such as interviewing and resume writing skills, and learned about the future Universal Hip Hop Museum, which will be a cultural anchor at the Bronx Point development.

Youth who completed the program were invited to take a free OSHA 40 class, and almost half of the cohort took up the offer and completed their OSHA training this month. The OSHA graduates will receive complimentary PPE gear – including a hard hat, vest, and boots – from BronxWorks to help them prepare for on-site positions. In addition, workforce partner Building Skills will engage the cohort at the next open house for jobs in construction, so they can connect their training with employment opportunities.

The workforce development program was developed by the Bronx Point development team (L+M and Type A Projects) and general contractor (UAG) in partnership with Bronx Community Board 4 and BronxWorks.
