Grantee Spotlight: RiseBoro Community Partnership

RiseBoro Community Partnership’s Saratoga Grows! and Saratoga Cooks! programs have become a staple in the Saratoga Village Houses community for a decade, offering “seed to plate” education for senior residents. Supported through L+M’s grantmaking, the two programs deliver more than 30 weeks of hands on food cultivation, healthy cooking, and nutrition literacy each year.

Participants meet weekly for 90 minute sessions, where Saratoga Grows! focuses on cultivating herbs and vegetables in the on site greenhouse and open air beds. Those same ingredients become the foundation of Saratoga Cooks!, where participants prepare healthy, culturally diverse meals together. The programs complement each other, giving seniors a cohesive experience that ties together gardening, nutrition, and cooking.

The seniors also explore global, health conscious recipes, often vegetarian and rooted in their own cultures, as well as work with fresh ingredients and new techniques. Sessions also include ecology discussions that link environmental health to human health, helping participants appreciate how gardening and cooking can support overall wellness.

Together, these experiences create an impact that extends well beyond each session. Saratoga Grows! and Saratoga Cooks! foster a community where seniors continue to build culinary confidence, connection, and health.
